Be Censored or Be Secret

Be Censored or Be Secret
"there's nothing to keep your employer from firing you, or taking other disciplinary action, for what you say at the water cooler, in a company newsletter, or even on your own personal blog." ~Delaware Online (Apr 23)

It's so sad that you can't write whatever you want on your own personal blog or Web site without having to worry about losing your job. That's the way it is though. If you write something bad about the company you work for or your job and your employer finds out you could end up jobless.

What's worse is that after you're fired you may go for a job interview and the company you're interviewing at may not hire you for the same reason. What you posted on your site is keeping you jobless.

Be careful what you post. If you want to keep your job you can do one of two things; censor or secret.

Censor what you write. Don't write about things that can get you fired or even in trouble. Keep your writing to a personal level and an innocent level.

Keep your identity secret. Don't give out your name, city, state or anything personal about you. Never mention where you work, what city or town you live in or even what you look like. Don't post pictures either.

If you don't want to do either, do both. Have two sites. One where you post all your photos and give out your Web site address to everyone you know. Keep another where you don't post who you are but you get to talk about anything and everything you want to talk about.
